The Armor of God: equipped to stand

Every day, disciples of Jesus Christ wake up in an adversarial environment. Satan and his kingdom of darkness fill the world's atmosphere with their authority and work through those who are not submitted to the control of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:1–3). When we are not surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ and our souls are not submitted to the Holy Spirit, we will always follow the ways of the world and our own thoughts and emotions, which is called in Scripture as following the ways of the flesh.

In Ephesians 4:22–24, Paul tells us that we need to take off our old self, which is corrupted in its desires, and put on the new self, which has been recreated in the likeness of God in righteousness and truth. Upon salvation, we have access to the new self, or new man, that is the righteous nature of Jesus that replaces our Adam nature. When we put on this new self, we are adopting the very nature of Jesus, and we can then put on the Armor of God to be equipped to stand firm and steady in a world under the control of the kingdom of darkness.

The Armor of God found in Ephesians 6:10–18 is a picture of putting on all the different aspects of the nature of Jesus so that we can be victorious and win our battles. In this class, you will learn:

• The importance of the spoken word of God.
