How Does My Brain Work? an understanding of renewing the mind

Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 that to know God's perfect will, we must renew our minds. What does this mean, and why do we need to do it? See, when sin entered the world, we became disconnected from the Spirit of God, which was our internal compass toward righteousness and holiness. Without that guide, we were left to figure life out through our own interpretations based on our family dynamics, circumstances, culture, and education. Through these things, we form a personality and a set of internal beliefs that guide our lives. These internal beliefs often do not align with the truths of Scripture and our new righteous identity in Christ. Our personalities are shaped through coping mechanisms and masks of our true selves because we had to learn to protect our hearts.

Understanding how God designed our minds to work helps us renew our minds and bring our souls into alignment with the Holy Spirit. Our brains are wonderfully complex and created to keep us functioning in a sinful world. This class is designed to help you understand your mind and how your brain functions so that your inner being can be transformed into your true self.

In this class, you will learn:

  • The importance of knowing ourselves.

  • We are a triune being comprised of a body, soul, and spirit. What is the function of each of these parts of us?

  • Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions. How does what our mind believes impact our maturity in Christ?

  • What is our mind? How does it function?

  • What is memory? What are the two types of memory, and how does understanding these relate to renewing our minds and maturing in Christ?

  • What is a trigger, and how do healing triggers change our reactions and behavior?

  • How does our mind make sense of our circumstances, situations, and the world around us?
